Hare a few possible causes that might explain why you're in pain :
- lifting an object and using your back, not your legs
- degenerative changes in the spine due to ageing
- straining your back during activities
- an injury to a disk in your spine
- spondylolisthesis - a condition in which the vertebrae slips out of place and put pressure on nerves in the spine
- spinal stenosis which occurs when the space around the spine narrows, resulting in pressure on nearby nerves and the spinal cord
- scoliosis, an abnormal curvature of the spine
